Singapore U19 won by 9 Wickets
After Singapore won the toss and elected to bowl, Captain Jeevan Santhanam attributed this decision to the wicket conditions and the strong bowling attack that the team possesses. Thailand’s openers attempted to see the pacers off, however fell short to the brilliance of Aryaveer Chaudhry – picking 2 crucial wickets.
This was followed by perhaps one of the best debut spells by Pranav Dhanuka, creating a record during his first match at the international stage.
Another debutant Hariharnan Ganesh Ramani, cleverly made his way through the Thai batters and perplexed them with his variations and googlies. A massive bowling effort by the Singapore team contained Thailand to a mere total of 52.
The Singapore batsmen looked dominant and set to chase the total from the start. A steady start by the openers Rahil Khan and Kabir Zandani followed by a gritty and skilful knock by the wicketkeeper batsman Pratham Somani, saw the team through to the semi-finals of the ACC U19 Men’s Premier Cup 2023.
PRANAV DHANUKA 4 wicket and Man-of-the-Match on his debut.
Debutant Pranav Dhanuka displayed a sterling performance with the ball. Panav managed to take 4 wickets in 4.4 overs while conceding just 4 runs. His spell further consisted of 3 maidens as the Thai batsmen struggled to deal with his pace and swing. Pranav was awarded the Man-of-the-Match award and had this to say on his performance.
“I just tried focusing on bowling with good rhythm, staying consistent and building pressure to coerce the batsmen into making mistakes…”.
His level of maturity not only aided in Singapore’s victory and progress towards the semi-finals of the tournament but also left a mark in the history of Singapore Cricket as he may just be the first player to debut with a four-wicket haul and receive the Man-of-the Match award. We wish Pranav and Singapore U19 best of luck for the rest of the tournament. Majulah!
