ACC U19s EASTERN REGION TROPHY
MALAYSIA 2019
SEMI FINAL 2
SINGAPORE VS HONG KONG
@ SELANGOR TURF CLUB
Singapore came up against Group B table toppers Hong Kong in the semi finals of the ACC U19s Eastern Region Trophy for 2019.
Winning the toss on the spin friendly wicket of STC, Singapore opted to field first. Things did not go to plan as Hong Kong opener Nasrulla Rana came hard at the Singapore bowlers notching up 55 in just 28 balls before being dismissed LBW by Pramesh Singhavi and halting the free flow of runs for HK at 82-3 in 9.5 overs. Singapore then looked to have curtailed the HK innings although a slow measured innings from Adit Gorawara 52(114) tied up one end and a late cameo from Mehran scoring 40 (47) took Hong Kong’s final innings score to 247/9. Moments of poor fielding and dropped chances by Singapore letting HK off the hook during crucial phases of the game.
Singapore’s chase was dampened from the word go as Satish Kannusami was caught and bowled brilliantly by left arm finger spinner, Mohammad Hassan and soon fellow opener Sai Harsha departed, bowled by Hassan. Singapore skipper Vinit Mehta held fort with Hari Kukreja but was also brilliantly caught at midwicket ending his vigil. Singapore lost two more wickets of Singhavi and Sridev as Hari Kukreja fought a lone battle ending on 43* (60) before heavy showers ended the days play and Singapore way behind the D/L score at 97/5 and losing by 51 runs. Hong Kong clinical on the field as half chance catches were snapped up and the difference on the day between the two sides.
Singapore’s campaign coming to an end and so to Malaysia’s as they were convincingly beaten in the other semi finals and all to play for between Hong Kong and Nepal on the 9th of July 2019 at the final at Kinrara Oval.
