Mukasa Torments SG Stars Again

The SG Crescents put the SG Stars to the sword in their second encounter in the Mariners’ EPS T20 Series played on the 28th of February 2019 at IA. Batting first, the SG Stars looked to have got the run rate going but lost wickets at regular intervals to be 44/3 in 6.5 over, dampening what would have been a great start to the powerplay. Opening bowlers James Cox and Charles Waiswa were miserly in their opening overs while first change bowler, Murtaza was expensive and gave the SG Stars a way back into the game.

Mutreja and Shinde looked to be formidable pair in the middle and put the SG Star innings back on track but Roger Mukasa, handed the ball to bowl his ‘Sunil Narine’ actioned off spinners snared his second victim in Mutreja 27 (25). Mukasa then went on to do further damage in eating into the middle order taking two more crucial wickets of Dixit and Rangaswamy, both capable of doing damage with the bat. The final blow to the SG Stars was losing the dangerous looking Shinde for 25 (22) as they folded for a paltry 93 in just 14.3 overs. Mukasa making a habit of being a thorn in the side for the SG Stars,having hurt them with a monster innings in the last match between the two and this time showing his guile with the ball in taking 4/11 in his 4 overs.

A deflated SG Stars took to the field to defend their total and found some life in seeing the back of Shahrukh Dhar, albeit retiring hurt after being struck by his fellow countryman Husnain Shah on his right hand. Mukasa out next being run out for the third time in the series for 17 (22) and with Aritra Dutta and Aryaman Uchil also departing with the score on 43/3, the SG Stars felt that they had the foot in the door and could snatch an unlikely win. However, the stable pair of Manpreet Singh (30* off 22) and Karthik Subramanian (14* off 16) entered the fray and the stabilised the Crescents innings with responsible shot making and took the men in orange home in 13.2 overs for a 7-wicket victory. Uganda’s Roger Mukasa once again named Man of the Match in an encounter against the SG Stars and proving to be a key player for his team the SG Crescents with both bat and ball.

SG Crimsons Claim Third Win in T20 Series

The SG Crimsons bounced back after a disappointing loss in their previous match against the SG Stars. Playing the SG Crescents on the 26th of February 2018 at IA, the Crimsons won the toss and elected to field.

The SG Crimsons countered a quick onslaught of runs by snaring three Crescent wickets with 48 runs on the board off just 5.4 overs. With a fourth wicket and the score at 65/4, the Crimsons seemed to have reined things back and looked to be in good position to curtail the Crescents for a score below 130. The burly forms of Aryaman Uchil and Anantha Krishna had different ideas as the pair unleashed a flurry of hard hitting and helped themselves to scores of 51 (44) and 42 (26) respectively as the Crescents ended their innings on 162/6. The pair had hit a total of 8 sixes between them.  The Crimsons bowlers sharing the wickets while Kenneth Waiswa doing well to keep an economy of 5.5 in his 4 overs.

The SG Crimsons broke with routine and sent the aggressive Chetan Suryawanshi to partner Rohan Rangarajan  to try and take advantage of the power play and the excellent batting conditions. The ploy didn’t work as Suryawanshi was out just two balls in when he failed to clear the mid on fielder off Amjad Mahboob. With the score at 3/1 in just 0.3 overs and with Prasheen Param struggling from a hip injury sustained while fielding, the chase did not look like it was going to end well for the SG Crimsons.  Navin Param came into deputise for his brother and the two youngsters in the middle took control and showed impressive batsmanship as they stole quick singles and put away loose balls with authority, not letting the Crescents bowlers settle. Rohan Rangarajan was finally run out at 42 (29) in the 11th over , leaving Crimsons on 97/2. Just as the chase was looking to go the Crimsons way, two quick wickets lost in the space of a run saw the Crimsons now sitting on a precarious 98/4 in the 12th over. Navin Param being dismissed for 47 (40) in the 14th over and the score at 112/5 looked like the Crescents had now won back the initiative. The injured Prasheen Param joined the stocky Manoj Yadav out in the middle and put on an excellent batting display with the latter scoring a quickfire and bold 37* (22) which saw the Crimsons home in 18.2 overs and winning by 5 wickets.

Anantha Krishna from the SG Crescents bringing some joy to his team by being nominated player of the match for his 42 (26) and 2 wicket haul. The SG Crimsons now boast 3 wins out of 4 in the group stages and sit comfortably on top of the pile while the SG Crescents and SG Stars have a win each.

EPS OVERSEAS PLAYERS VISIT SCA ACADEMY

The Overseas players playing in the SCA Elite Player Series paid a visit to the SCA Academy on the 23rd of February 2019.

The overseas players from Africa assisted the academy coaches in the morning sessions from 8am till 12pm. The academy participants were fortunate to have one to one sessions with the players while the Level 1 trainee coaches were also in attendance.

Kenneth Waiswa, Charles Waiswa & Roger Mukasa (Uganda), Karabo Motlhanka & Adithya Rangaswamy (Botswana) and Tafara Chingwara (Zimbabwe) were more than happy to impart their knowledge to the academy participants and attached Level 1 trainee coaches.

The Asian overseas players and English pace bowler, James Cox paid their visit to the academy for the evening sessions to assist with coaching. Pakistanis Husnain Shah, Ghulam Murtazar & Shahrukh Dhar were also on hand to conduct these sessions.

Mukasa Rampage Sinks SG Stars

The Stars and Crescents went head to head on the 19th of February at IA in the third fixture of the EPS T20 Series with both teams hoping to notch up their first wins of the campaign. The Crescents batted first and opened with Uganda’s Roger Mukasa and Aritra Dutta. Dutta found himself back in the pavilion first ball LBW and Crescents skipper Manpreet Singh settled the innings with Mukasa. Mukasa went on the offensive as Manpreet rotated the strike and even as the latter was dismissed for 19 (21), the heavy scoring continued as Mukasa was ruthless against a collection of Stars bowlers notching up 75 off 55 balls which consisted of 4 sixes, one of them possibly the biggest ever hit at the Indian Association ground as it landed on Balestier Road after grazing the top of a tree. The SG Crescents amassing a hefty 184/4 after their 20 overs.

The SG Stars had a big chase on their hands and 2 wickets lost with the score on 38 in the 5th over did not help their cause. SG Stars captain, Rezza Gaznavi looked to provide the spark that was needed to give momentum to the chase but his dismissal for 24 (33) once again put the brakes on their chase and as the 16 year old left arm spinner, Ishaan Sawney and leg spinner, Anantha Krishna went on to claim five Stars wickets between themselves, took the fight out of the SG Stars as they were wrapped up for 104 in 18.5 overs. Crescents winning by a whopping 80 runs and Roger Mukasa rightfully named player of the match for his brutal knock which put Crescents on top from the start.

The SG Crimsons will play the SG Stars next in the 21st of February 2019 as the Crimsons will look to extend their unbeaten run in the T20 series while Stars will want to return to winning ways.

Crimsons Surge in the EPS T20 and 50 Over Series

The SG Crimsons put up another clinical performance in their second T20 match of the series as they took on the SG Crescents on the 14th of February 2019 at IA. Losing the toss and being asked to field first, the SG Crimsons reduced the SG Stars to 30/2 in 4.6 overs and has to work a little harder for their next breakthrough in the 10th over when Surendran Chandramohan fell, bowled by the young leg spinner Pramesh Singhavi for 29 (34). Crescents skipper, Manpreet Singh held fort and scored a crucial 57 (47) before being run out as the SG Crescents finished on 130/7. U19s leg spinner, Pramesh Singhavi impressing with his figures of 3/22.

The SG Crimsons picked up where they left off in the last T20 fixtures with the opening batting pair of Motlhanka and Rangarajan keeping the scoreboard ticking over with some lusty blows and quick singles. Even as the more subdued Motlhanka fell for a run a ball 15 in the 5th over after an ill-judged run, the Crimsons looked to be in no bother as Prasheen Param 34 * (32) picked up the pace from the word go and paired with the in form Rangarajan who dominated the Crescents bowling attack with 72* off 56 balls, took Crimsons home with another 9 wickets victory. Rohan Rangarajan named man of the match for the second T20 match in a row.

The in-form Crimsons now took it upon themselves to stage a recovery in the 50 over series in where they had lost their first two opening matches in their third match played on the 16th of February 2019 at IA.Losing the toss once again however, the Crimsons were put in to field as the returning skipper, Janak Prakash led his team out to take on the batting of the SG Crescents once again.

The Crescents never really got going in their inning as the Crimsons bowlers not only took wickets but also choked their opponents for runs. At the 21st over, the Crescents sat on 75/4 and more wickets fell until the stodgy Karthikeyan Subramanian came in at 6 and staged a mini recovery of sorts in taking the Crescents to a respectable 205/8 in 50 overs in scoring a patient 68 (83). Crimsons skipper, Janak Prakash taking 3/45 in his 10 overs.

The SG Crimsons took charge from ball one in their chase as Motlhanka and Rangarajan once again applied pressure on the fielding team with quick singles and dispatching balls to the boundaries. Motlhanka was happy to play anchor as Rangarajan smashed his way to 55 (49) before being caught one handed to his right by a diving Aritra Dutta at point. Prasheen Param was soon dismissed to another good catch by keeper Manpreet for 12 (18) and with the Crimsons now sitting on 121/2 in just 19 overs, Chetan Surywanshi took it upon himself to improve the NRR by clubbing a audacious 58* (34) while Motlhanka also went on to score his half century with 52*(82), Crimsons winning with another dominating 8 wickets. Rohan Rangarajan winning his third MOM in three consecutive matches for the Crimsons.

The SG Stars and SG Crescents will play next on the 19th of February 2019 in the T20 series at IA at 7.30pm while the SG Crimsons enjoy a 5 day break before their next fixture on the 21st of February.

SG Crimsons Win Big in EPS T20 Series Opener

SG Crimsons recovered from a winless start to their 50 Over campaign by brushing aside the SG Stars in the first match of the EPS T20 Series played on the 12th of February 2019 at the Indian Association. The SG Stars winning the toss and electing to bat first as Arjun Mutreja and Gonthina Santosh made their way to the middle.

Mutreja looked to pose a threat from the first ball will a crisply driven off drive for four off Zimbabwean paceman Tafara Chingwara. Chingwara then dropped his length and troubled Mutreja on the back foot and finally snared his man 5th ball with a rising delivery finding the opener’s edge to the keeper. Santosh was soon out for a duck, bowled first ball to Surywanshi and a brief cameo from Pakistani Husnain Shah 14 (12) soon came to an end in the 5th over with SG Stars on 54/4. Ugandan medium pacer, Kenneth Waiswa and spinners Vinoth Baskaran, Pramesh Singhavi and Rohan Rangarajan then ran the show with a good show of accurate bowling and heaped the pressure on the SG Stars. Ksithij Shinde however kept the scoreboard going until he was brilliantly caught at long off by Rangarajan for 48 (49). SG Stars finishing the day with 131/9. Kenneth Waiswa the pick of the Crimsons bowlers with 3-26 off 3 overs.

SG Crimsons lost opener and skipper, Karabo Motlhanka for 9 (16) which brought Prasheen Param to the crease to partner Rohan Rangarajan. The pair then structured their chase with great control as Rangarajan played aggressor which was complimented well by Param’s supporting role.  Rangarajan smashing 4 sixes in his innings of 56* (52) and Param ending on 38* (35) as the SG Crimsons romped to a 9 wicket win over the SG Stars in just 16.5 overs. Rohan Rangarajan named player of the match for his all-round display with the bat, ball and on field.

The SG Crimsons now finding some wind in their sails after two disappointing performances in their 50 over matches while the SG Stars brought down to earth after starting their 50 over campaign on a high with two massive wins.

The SG Crimsons will play their next T20 match on the 14th of February 2019 as they take on the SG Crescents who play their first T20 match of the series.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

ICC U19 CWC Div.1 – ASIA

Welcome to the Information Circular for the ICC U19 CWC Div.1 – Asia to be held in Malaysia from 10 April 2019 – 18 April 2019. Tournament Director will be Niteesha Kothari (ICC).  The playing venues for the tournament in Kuala Lumpur will be Kinrara, Bayuemas Oval and UKM Oval. H

SG Stars Continue Winning Ways

The SG Stars took on the SG Crimsons in the 3rd match of the Elite Player 50 Over Series. The SG Stars came off a thumping win over the SG Crescents in their first match and looked to now extend their dominance against the SG Crimsons who lost a close match against the Crescents in their first match.

Winning the toss, SG Stars captain Rezza Gaznavi chose to bat first and whilst the SG Crimsons did well in taking two quick wickets in the first 5 overs, Arjun Mutreja looked to settle early and took control of the SG Stars innings and bossed his way to a 106 (111) which included 111 boundaries and 2 sixers. Kshitij Shinde was the next best scorer for the Stars with 28 (39), The SG Crimsons rallied well to contain the SG Stars to 193 all out with opening bowlers Tafara Chingwara 2-52 and Janak Prakash 3-37 bringing the SG Stars innings to a halt in 38.2 overs.

SG Crimsons started their innings in control of their chase in measured fashion and even with the loss of Karabo Motlhanka early, Rakshit and Prasheen Param looked to have got the chase back on track Rakshit’s dismissal for 34 (72) saw Janak Prakash departing soon after too the sting out of the Crimsons chase. Even as Hanshul Singhania 25 (35) did his best to bring the chase back on track, his dismissal meant that Prasheen Param was left with too much to do as wickets fell around him and was finally out for 45 (90) and with that SG Crimsons were soon all out for 172 in 48.3 overs. SG Stars winning by 17 runs and top of the pile after the first round of 50 over matches.

The T20 Series will commence soon on the 12th of Feb as the SG Crimsons take in the SG Crescents in the first match.

SCA EPS Inaugural 50 Over Series kicks off during CNY

The inaugural SCA Elite Player 50 Over Series kicked off during the Chinese New Year holidays on the 5th and 6th of February 2019. All three teams saw action across the two days with SG Crescents playing two matches back to back.

In the first match of the 50 over series on the 5th of February 2019, SG Crimsons took on SG Crescents at the Indian Association ground. The day match commenced at 9.30 am with SG Crimsons winning the toss and electing to bat. Navin Param played a sensible innings of 70 not out and should have scored more if not for a batting collapse which saw the SG Crimsons going from a strong position to score 230 over runs to being dismissed for 177 in 43 overs. Prasheen Param 33 (61) and Janak Prakash 32 (42) were the other significant contributors for the Crimsons score.  Ugandan skipper, Roger Mukasa taking 4 wickets for 45 in his 10 overs and his fellow countryman adding to Crimson’s misery by claiming 3-22 off 8 overs.

The SG Crescents chase started dismally with early wickets being lost up till Aryaman Uchil went on the assault and scored 58 (45) balls which consisted of 5 sixes. He was eventually caught in the deep but has already set the platform for an easier chase of the total. A sensible knock of 24 (53) inched the Crescents to the total with many overs to spare but a late surge by the Crimsons left the Crescents needing 3 runs with 1 wicket left and were let off the hook when Anantha Krishna cover drove a boundary taking them over the line for a one wicket victory. Zimbabwean quick, Tafara Chingwara bringing the game to the edge with his 4/42 off 8 overs.

The second match played as a day nighter at IA between the SG Crescents and SG Stars saw the former putting on a brilliant batting display as a unit as they amassed 251/8 in 50 overs. Aditya Mallik became the first centurion with 104 (117) showing his class with a well-paced innings on a difficult track. Kshitij Shinde played his hand with a useful 52 (68) while Malaysian Virandeep Singh was the next best scorer for Stars with 28 (68). Left arm paceman, Charles Waiswa with impressive figures of 3/34 off 9 overs.

The SG Crescents were in for a torrid time as Pakistani tearaway quick, Husnain Shah ran through their top order leaving them on the ropes for 53/4. A valiant knock at the end by Karthik Subramanian for his 25 (36) was never going to be enough as Crescents folded to a thumping 141 run defeat. Husnain Shah the star of the show with his 4/14 off 5 overs.

The series will now recommence on the 9th of February 2019 when the SG Crimsons will look to take on the SG Stars for their first win of the campaign.

The SCA Awards Night Season 2018.

The better performers in the SCA 2018 League enjoyed an excellent evening on 2 Feb 2019 when they received their awards at the annual prize-giving ceremony.

Held at Sports Hub, the players who excelled in the various divisions and the teams that featured among the top in the different leagues received their appreciation in an hour-long ceremony attended by more than 250 players and officials.

The SCA also announced the various youth tournaments featuring teams selected from the various zones. Zonal cricket involving under-14 and under-17 players will play in a league aimed at encouraging cricket excellence among the younger players.
