ACC EASTERN REGION U19s TROPHY – MALAYSIA 2019

SINGAPORE VS NEPAL
KINRARA OVAL
5th JULY 2019

Singapore took on Nepal in their final Group A match at the Kinrara Oval. Winning the toss, Nepal elected to bat on the batting haven.

The vastly experienced Nepali batsman hit their stride from ball one, nudging singles into gaps and punishing the bad balls. Singapore only managed their breakthrough in the 15th over when skipper Vinit Mehtha got Pawan Sarraf caught behind for 45 (41). Singapore toiled further for wickets on the batting friendly wickets but even as wickets fell later in the Nepali innings, opener Rit Gautam raised his bat for 115* and with a quickfire 51* (23) by Kushal Malla, Nepal ending on 326/4.

Singapore in to bat and knowing that a semi final spot was already sealed, looked to try and bat out the 50 overs to gain some valuable batting time in the middle off quality Nepali spin.Left handed opener Kannusami looked to get into a good flow but was dismissed top edging a sweep for 24 (55) and while Singapore struggled to keep wickets, a sturdy partnership between Kukreja 30 (66) and Sridev 23 (56) with Singapore 6 down, took Singapore beyond the 100 mark but their dismissals sparked another collapse with Singapore finally folding for 109 in 39.1 overs.

Nepal stamping their authority over Singapore and topping Group A while Singapore placed second. Both teams advance to the semis and await to see who will top Group B after Malaysia take on Hong Kong tomorrow.
