ICC T20 Asia Finals Qualifier 2019 hosted by Singpore from 22- 28 July!

Singapore National Team is ranked 23rd in the ICC global rankings and is upbeat to start their ICC T20 Asia Finals World Cup Qualifier campaign next week.

The team will be led by Amjad Mahboob, with a great blend of youth and experience.

The journey to the ICC T20 World Cup in Australia 2020 started with Singapore finishing top of the Asia POOL B Qualifier with Nepal.

Singapore is looking to progress even further and their Head Coach, Bilal Asad is extremely excited at the opportunity ahead: “We are playing at home so all the players are fired up and ready for the challenge”.

Tim David from Western Australia speaking to SCA Academy participants about his playing experiences for Western Australia and also at the Big Bash League when he represented the Perth Scorchers and the road to becoming a professional cricketer.

Tim, who is born in Singapore and qualifies to represent the nation by birth, will make his debut for Singapore at the upcoming ICC World T20 Asia Qualifiers which will take place on the 22nd to 29th July 2019 at the Singapore Indian Association.

The PK GLADIATORS completed a month long tour by capturing the SG PAK T20 CUP 2-0 yesterday with a commanding chase of the SCA SELECT XI Total of 118 & winning by 7 wkts.

The matches gave the SCA SELECT XI a great opportunity to get a wonderful preparation ahead of the ICC WORLD T20 QUALIFIERS to be held in Singapore from 20-29th July 2019.

Mirza Tahir Baig was named MAN OF THE MATCH for yet another attacking 65 off 40 & Player of the Series for his consistent match winning contributions.

PK GLADIATORS won game 1 of the SG PAK T20 Cup with a command performance by 43 runs. In the process they registered their 1st 200 plus (203 in 20 ovrs) score having won the toss and electing to bat first.

Chasing 203 for victory the SCA SELECT XI put up a strong fight with Arit Dutta firing a 23 ball 42 with 4 6’s supported by Surendar C and TIM David.

A fired up spell by the PKG spearhead Sarmad Danish and a web spun by Danyal D capturing 7 wkts between them ensured the SCA SELECT XI chase was never gathering momentum.

But the night’s STAR performance came from MAN OF THE MATCH Tahir Baig who scored a stroke packed 80 from 53 including 7 4s & 4 6s taking the PKG Score to 203.

Singapore came up against Group B table toppers Hong Kong in the semi finals of the ACC U19s Eastern Region Trophy for 2019.

Winning the toss on the spin friendly wicket of STC, Singapore opted to field first. Things did not go to plan as Hong Kong opener Nasrulla Rana came hard at the Singapore bowlers notching up 55 in just 28 balls before being dismissed LBW by Pramesh Singhavi and halting the free flow of runs for HK at 82-3 in 9.5 overs. Singapore then looked to have curtailed the HK innings although a slow measured innings from Adit Gorawara 52(114) tied up one end and a late cameo from Mehran scoring 40 (47) took Hong Kong’s final innings score to 247/9. Moments of poor fielding and dropped chances by Singapore letting HK off the hook during crucial phases of the game.

Singapore’s chase was dampened from the word go as Satish Kannusami was caught and bowled brilliantly by left arm finger spinner, Mohammad Hassan and soon fellow opener Sai Harsha departed, bowled by Hassan. Singapore skipper Vinit Mehta held fort with Hari Kukreja but was also brilliantly caught at midwicket ending his vigil. Singapore lost two more wickets of Singhavi and Sridev as Hari Kukreja fought a lone battle ending on 43* (60) before heavy showers ended the days play and Singapore way behind the D/L score at 97/5 and losing by 51 runs. Hong Kong clinical on the field as half chance catches were snapped up and the difference on the day between the two sides.

Singapore’s campaign coming to an end and so to Malaysia’s as they were convincingly beaten in the other semi finals and all to play for between Hong Kong and Nepal on the 9th of July 2019 at the final at Kinrara Oval.

Singapore born AUSTRALIAN BIG BASH & WACA WARRIORS PRO TIMOTHY HAYS DAVID joins the TEAM SINGAPORE CAMP for training and practice games in preparation for the upcoming ICC WORLD T20 QUALIFIERS ASIA FINAL to be held in Singapore.

The TEAM WELCOMED TIM by presenting him the CAP and wishes him all the very best for the upcoming tournament to do SINGAPORE PROUD.

Game 3 of the best of 3 SG STRAITS T20 CHALLENGE saw the PK GLADIATORS (PKG) recorded yet another SERIES WIN coming back strongly after being 1-0 down after the 1st game.

The openers for PKG started the inns with a dominating 12 RPO 73 run partnership in the 6 over POWER PLAY with Tahir Baig hitting a 40 ball 58 & Skipper Muhammad Akhlaq hitting a stroke filled 37 in 25.

The PK GLADIATORS put a challenging 184 on the board.

SG SELECT XI got off to a poor start losing opening bat Rohan Rangarajan in the 1 st ball and 2 quick Wkts there after by the 4th ovr with the score reading 3 for 20.

Singapore born Australian BIG BASH League Pro Timothy Hays David batted elegantly and untroubled to score 27 off 23 where he perished trying to keep up with a sky rocketing RRR. With only Anish Param (12 from 14) being the only other batter to cross double figures SINGAPORE SELECT XI was done & dusted by the PK GLADIATORS for 70 all out in 14 ovrs.

Danyal Allah Ditta was awarded man of the match for his brilliant 5 wkt only conceding 2 runs in 3 overs on a very good batting pitch.

THE SG PAK T20 CUP the final t20 series before the ICC WORLD T20 QUALIFIERS commences on Monday 8th July with 3 back to back Games.

Singapore took on Nepal in their final Group A match at the Kinrara Oval. Winning the toss, Nepal elected to bat on the batting haven.

The vastly experienced Nepali batsman hit their stride from ball one, nudging singles into gaps and punishing the bad balls. Singapore only managed their breakthrough in the 15th over when skipper Vinit Mehtha got Pawan Sarraf caught behind for 45 (41). Singapore toiled further for wickets on the batting friendly wickets but even as wickets fell later in the Nepali innings, opener Rit Gautam raised his bat for 115* and with a quickfire 51* (23) by Kushal Malla, Nepal ending on 326/4.

Singapore in to bat and knowing that a semi final spot was already sealed, looked to try and bat out the 50 overs to gain some valuable batting time in the middle off quality Nepali spin.Left handed opener Kannusami looked to get into a good flow but was dismissed top edging a sweep for 24 (55) and while Singapore struggled to keep wickets, a sturdy partnership between Kukreja 30 (66) and Sridev 23 (56) with Singapore 6 down, took Singapore beyond the 100 mark but their dismissals sparked another collapse with Singapore finally folding for 109 in 39.1 overs.

Nepal stamping their authority over Singapore and topping Group A while Singapore placed second. Both teams advance to the semis and await to see who will top Group B after Malaysia take on Hong Kong tomorrow.

SCA 19s vs BJSS Cricket XI

With the late withdrawal of Myanmar from the tournament, the SCA arranged with the Bukit Jalil Sports School to play a 30 over match on the day Singapore were due to take on Myanmar. The match was played at the Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM) Oval in Bangi.

The Bukit Jalil Sports School is a sporting school of excellence in where various codes of sport, including cricket, give out scholarships to Malaysian youth who show promise in their chosen sport from around the country.

The Bukit Jalil Cricket Program has produced Malaysian cricketers over the years and currently also boast about nine players playing for Malaysia at U16s and U19s level.

The SCA 19s had pre arranged to bat first and put on a decent total of 146/6 in 30 overs. Top scorer for SCA 19s being skipper Vinit Mehta with 33* (36) before being retired. Other members of the top order chipping in with scores of 20s.

SCA 19s then took the field and were ruthless with the ball, dismissing BJSS Cricket XI for 53 in 12 overs with chief tormentor, leg spinner Pramesh Singhavi posting figures of 4/10 in 2.2 overs.

A morale boosting win for the SCA 19s but more importantly some valuable game time before Singapore play tournament favourites Nepal in the last Group A match where a win for either team will see them top the group.

Singapore take on Nepal tomorrow, the 5th of July 2019 at the Kinrara Oval at 10.30am.

Vinit Mehta destroys China

Singapore have beaten China by 8 wickets in their first match of the ACC U19s Eastern Region Trophy Group A match. This was also a momentous occasion for the Tamil Physical Cultural Association Oval as it was the first international match at the newly opened ground in Kajang.

Winning the toss, Singapore elected to field first and put in a good shift on the field, rolling China for 28 in 23 Overs. Skipper Vinit Mehta taking 7/8 off 6 overs with his off spinners.

Singapore chased the score down in 6.5 overs with Sai Harsha Venugopal on 15* (18).

With Myanmar pulled out of the tournament due to unforeseen circumstances, Singapore have now confirmed their spot in the semi finals with their final group match against Nepal in which a win will confirm top spot in Group A.

Singapore take on Nepal at the Kinrara Oval in the 5th of July 2019.

The Singapore U19s had their first training session at the Kinrara Oval this morning.

For most of the newest players in the squad, this was their first visit to the Kinrara Oval and its facilities and spent valuable time on the outfield and getting used to the playing environment.

Singapore begin their campaign tomorrow against China at the TPCA Oval in Kajang.

Muhammad Junaid bags 5 wkts

The Crimsons T20 Cup saw the PK GLADIATORS come back strongly from 1-0 down after the 1st game to clinch the series today in yet another command performance to follow up yesterday’s series levelling win to take the Cup 2-1.

Muhammad Junaid took a dominating 5wkt haul to restrict the SCA SELECT XI in there chase of 149 for victory.

Mr. Fahad Masood the Coach cum Manager of the PK GLADIATORS GAVE AWAY THE MAN OF THE MATCH AWARD.
