Singapore National Men’s Team Arrived in KL MALAYSIA

Singapore play their opening game versus Qatar on the 17th of September 2019. Group A: Singapore, Qatar, Denmark, Vanuatu, Canada and hosts Malaysia will be battling it out for honors in their campaign to qualify for the 50 over ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup in 2023.

There are two Challenge Leagues A and B, each comprising six teams that will play 15 matches each over two and half years. The other Group B consists of Bermuda, Hong Kong, Italy, Jersey, Kenya and Uganda.

Teams will compete in Challenge League A and B once a year respectively in 2019, 2020 and 2021. The league will see a total of 90 competitive 50 over List A matches for teams ranked 21-32. The top team in each league at the culmination of the competition will secure two of the six places in the Men’s Cricket World Cup Qualifier Play-Off to be held in 2022, alongside the bottom four of Men’s CWC League 2.

The Singapore updated squad is as follows:

Singapore Tri- Nation T20I Series: Singapore | Nepal | Zimbabwe

The Singapore Cricket Association is pleased to announce that we are organizing the Singapore Tri Nation T20I Series and have invited  Zimbabwe and Nepal to partake this inaugural ICC sanctioned T20I series.

This will be first T20I status series of matches coordinated by the SCA after ICC had granted international status for all T20 matches played amongst member nations in January 2019.

This series will prove to be a good test for the Singapore team who are currently ranked 21 in official T20I rankings as they come up against Nepal (11) and Zimbabwe (14). This will also bode well for the island nation as they prepare for the ICC T20 World Cup Global Qualifiers to be held in Dubai, UAE in October 2019.

The series will also carry a lot of meaning for Nepal who will look to set the record straight after missing out on the Global Qualifiers after losing to Singapore in the decider while Zimbabwe will be returning to Singapore’s shores after 20 years, having last played in a 50 over Tri series against India and West Indies in the Singapore Coca Cola Challenge in 1999.

The round robin series will see each nation play the other twice after which the team with the most points will clinch the series.

The matches will take place from the 27th September till the 4th of October and all matches will be played at the Singapore Indian Association Ground.

ICC T20 World Cup Global Qualifiers 2019 Fixtures Announcement

The ICC T20 World Cup Global Qualifiers 2019 will take place from 18th October to 2nd November in the UAE.

The teams are divided into two groups, according to the ICC T20 International Rankings on 26th August.

Singapore is placed in Group A.

Group A includes Scotland, Netherlands, PNG, Namibia, Kenya and Bermuda.

Group B includes UAE, Ireland, Oman, Hong Kong, Canada, Jersey and Nigeria.

The Singapore Fixtures are:

  1. 18th October, 10:00 am: Scotland vs Singapore at ICC Academy 1, Dubai.
  2. 20th October, 14:10 am: Bermuda vs Singapore at ICC Academy 2, Dubai.
  3. 22nd October, 14:10 am: Singapore vs Netherlands at ICC Academy 1, Dubai.
  4. 23rd October, 14:10 am: Singapore vs Kenya at ICC Academy 2, Dubai.

ICC Cricket World Cup Challenge League A 2019 Fixtures Announcement

The ICC Cricket World Cup Challenge League A 2019 will take place from 16th September to 26th September in Malaysia.

This will be part of the qualification pathway for the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023. All the matches will have List- A status.

The tournament format will be teams playing round robin matches.

Singapore will be joined by Denmark, Malaysia, Qatar, Canada and Vanuatu.

ACS (Independent) complete grand slam of National Cricket Championship

ACS (Independent) completed a hat trick of cricket titles, thereby making it a grand slam for the year 2019 when they defeated Raffles in the C Division finals by 40 runs. Earlier the school had won the A & B Division titles in April and May 2019 respectively.
 
At the CSC grounds on Monday 19 August, ACS won the toss and elected to bat. After a confident start, ACS lost the wicket of Aryan Lad for 13 runs. Inesh Basu and Pranav Nitin batted well to take the score to 40 when Inesh was out after scoring an attacking 18 off 22 balls. Pranav and Thiyanesh then put on a match-winning partnership of 90 runs for the 3rd wicket. ACS Captain Pranav was very impressed with his stroke play all around the wicket. He was dismissed in the last over for a stroke-filled inning of 67 runs off 52 balls with Six 4’s & Two 6’s. His partner Thiyanesh was unlucky to get run out for 19 runs. ACS posted a commanding total of 148 for 4 wickets in 20 overs. Jeevan was the most successful bowler for RI with 2 for 33 off 4 overs.
 
Raffles were given a good start by their openers Jeevan and Anshul. Just when he looked set Jeevan was caught at point for 18 runs. Rohit joined Anshul and both of them had a steady partnership but they were not able to play the big shots against the accurate ACS Spin bowlers. In their quest to reach the target they looked to play attacking shots and perished. Anshul scored 29 off 32 balls while Rohit got the top score for Raffles with 42 off 45 balls. Raffles finally ended their innings with 108 for 7 off their 20 overs. ACS captain Pranav played a crucial role in the bowling department too by claiming 2 wickets for 18 runs but the pick of the bowlers was Krithik Thota who got 2 wickets for just 16 runs. ACS were deserving winners by 40 runs.

SCA DONATES PLASTIC KIT TO ” VAANGAE ANNA” COMMUNITY INITIATIVE PROGRAM

The SCA donated plastic cricket bats, wickets and pro soft balls to the Vaange Anna community initiative.

National player, Aahan Achar, was on hand to donate the kit to Revathi Priya, one of the co founders of the initiative.

Vaangae Anna is a community initiative which aims to break down barriers and create a community, comprising of both our migrant brothers and Singaporeans, by creating a safe space where everyone in the community can come together to share their skills, stories and enjoy the company of one another.

One part of this initiative is a group of migrant workers from India and Bangladesh volunteering their time each Sunday at Boon Keng to teach members of the local community how to play cricket.

The SCA are extremely pleased that the Vaangae Anna program is using cricket as a tool to achieve their organisation’s goals and will be looking to work further with the Vaangae Anna program in the coming months.

MCF U19s SELECT VS SCA U16s SELECT

The MCF U19s Select played their last and 4th T20 match against the SCA U16s Select at the Indian Association Ground on the 5th of August 2019.

MCF U19s Select captain, Swan Hlet Ko Ko won the toss and on the back of their impressive batting display the day before, opted to bat.

The SCA U16s Select kept things in check from the start and the only threat , skipper Ko Ko did his best to keep the scoreboard ticking over and put on 45 (44) in his innings which included 5 boundaries before he was caught well in long off by Maheswari. The SCA bowlers reined things back well with young leg spinner, Hampihallikar once again impressing with figures of 2-12 off 4 overs and adding to the impressive stemming of runs. MCF U19s Select finishing the day on 102-7.

The SCA U16s Select, still reeling from the loss the day before were more measured in their chase. Quick singles were the order of the day as openers Maheswari and Chhajer ensured that the chase was on a steady incline. The unusually docile Chhajer departed for 18 (31) and Gune and Maheswari then took complete control. Gune ending on 23 *(27) and Maheswari on 41 * (47) ensuring a clinical batting performance and a 9 wicket victory.

Vihaan Maheswari in his first match in this series named MOM.

The MCF U19s Select will depart for Myanmar on the 6th of August 2019 and the SCA will look to continue this relationship between the two countries in the coming years.

 

IA TRIUMPH OVER SCC IN SCA PREMIER LEAGUE FINALS

The SCA Premier League finals was held at the Singapore Indian Association ground on Sunday, 4th August 2019 between the IA Eagles and SCC Lions.

The best players were on display from the top two sides of Singapore’s highest cricket league. Singapore was fresh from their victorious campaign at the ICC T20 Cricket World Cup Qualifier Asia Finals and there were 10 players from that squad taking part in this match.

The IA Eagles won the toss and elected to bat. This turned out to be a good decision, with a flat pitch and resulted in some exciting cricket. Although they lost an early wicket with Rohan being dismissed, Chaminda (50 off 79) and Surendar (122 off 103) had a brilliant partnership and built a solid foundation. Followed by beautiful innings by Arjun (73 off 56) and Chetan (72 off 37) to reach an incredible 370 for 7 of 50 overs.

This was a huge mountain to climb for the SCC Lions and it did not help when Janak clean bowled opener Aritra for 0 in the first over. Navin (59 off 33) and Sidhant (41 off 26) fought hard and kept up with the required run rate, however after the fall of their wickets, there was not much resistance. Anantha was the pick of the bowlers with 3 for 47 off 9 overs. The SCC Lions were eventually bowled out for 239.

This resulted in a 131 runs margin of victory for IA Eagles, continuing their domination of the Singapore domestic cricket system.

MCF U19s SELECT VS SCA U16s SELECT

MCF U19s SELECT VS SCA U16s SELECT
4th AUGUST 2019

A much improved MCF U19s Select showed their true abilities in the third match against the SCA U16s Select on the 4th of August T20 encounter.

Being put into bat first, the MCF U19s Select amassed 123-5 with a much improved batting display which saw Swan Htet Ko Ko score 34 (33) and Christopher score 24 (22), the latter hitting two massive sixes towards the end of the innings. Leg spinner Vihaan Hampihallikar boasting figures of 3-22 in his 4 overs which included a special Shane Warne typed delivery which bowled left hander Pyae Phyo Wai pitching out side off and turning to clip the bail of his leg stump.

The SCA U16s Select were in all sorts of trouble early with sustained pressure from the energetic Myanmarese at being 40-4 in the 10th over. The lower order for Singapore staged a fightback and Neil Karnik 24 (20) and Aryaveer Chaudhary 25 * (16) almost took the SCA Select home but falling short of just 7 runs in the end. The MCF Select’s spinners doing well to take 4 wickets between themselves.

MCF U19s SELECT VS SCA U16s SELECT

The SCA U16s Select took on the MCF U19s Select in their second match of the 4 match T20 Series.

Batting first once again, SCA U16s Select scored 126/7 in 20 overs with Girin Gune once again flourishing with the bat but falling one run short of a well deserved half century off 46 balls. MCF U19s Select, always a threat on the field took some great catches to dismiss key batters and restricted SCA U16s Select to 126.

In their chase, MCF U19s Select started well even after an early loss when Swan Htet Ko Ko came in to smash five boundaries before being caught at long off for 23 (19). The Singapore lads happy to see the back of Ko Ko as a more prolonged stay at the crease would have had the SCA U16s in trouble. After Ko Ko’s dismissal, it was smooth sailing for the U16s as they wrapped MCF U19s Select for 68 in 19.1 overs.

The third T20 match will be played at 7.30pm at the Indian Association on the 4th August 2019.

MCF U19s SELECT VS SCA U16s SELECT

2nd August 2019

The Myanmar Cricket Federation U19s team is in Singapore from the 1st – 6th August 2019. After being withdrawn from the ACC U19s Eastern Region Trophy which was played in July in KL due to unforeseen circumstances, the MCF had made a request to the SCA if they could instead tour Singapore to give their U19s cricketers some much needed international exposure.

The team will play as the MCF U19s Select in a four match T20 series against an SCA U16s Select. The SCA U16s Select will consist of squad members of the Singapore U16s team which participated in the ACC U16s Eastern Region Trophy.

The 1st match played on the 2nd of August 2019 at IA saw SCA U16s Select score 126 all out in 18.5 overs with Girin Gune top scoring with 29 (20). MCF U19s Select’s flamboyantly named Christopher Christopher doing damage to the SCA U16s Select batting line up after a bright start by claiming 4 wickets off 4 overs for 25 runs.

In reply, the MCF U19s Select found the going tough as they were rolled for 82 in 19.4 overs. Off spinner Akshay Puri doing one better than his opposing number by taking 5 wickets for just 7 runs.

SCA U16s Select winning by 40 runs and the two teams will face off again at the Indian Association at 6.30pm on the 3rd of August for the 2nd T20 match.
