In line with the overall objective of the “SCA ELITE PLAYER PERFORMACE PROGRAM. SCA “E3P”, SCA has started in Q2 – 2018 a secondary programme designed for the upcoming talented youth of Singapore called the SCA JUNIOR CHAMPIONS DEVELOPMENT PROGRAMME, SCA “JCDP”. This will involve a nation-wide talent hunt together the crème of talented cricketers.
The SCA will be launching the U17s/U14s T10 Zonal League for 2019 which will begin in February and played through till April 2019.
This initiative was launched in 2018 as a pilot in where 6 Zonal Team South East Zone | Metro South Zone | East Zone | West Zone | Central Zone | North Zone were formed for the U17s League and 3 formed for the U14s league.
The next edition will see an expanded version of this league in where each Zone in each Age Group will have two teams.
The 4 leagues will be
SCA T10 U17s Premier League
SCA T10 U17s Challenge League
SCA T10 U14s Premier League
SCA T10 U14s Challenge League
So for example, East Zone U17s will have the Eastern Tridents and an East Zone Team, while the Eastern Tridents will play in the U17s Premier League, the East Zone will play in the U17s Challenge League
If all 24 teams across both age group are filled with the max capacity of 15 players per team, all 4 leagues could potentially see 360 junior male cricketers involved and playing cricket on a regular basis.
The Zonal T10 Leagues will also assist SCA’s goals as follows:
- Create an official NSA run age group league/leagues
- Create a bigger pool of junior players from U14s up for potential representation of Singapore
- Ensure that an junior cricketer that may not be affiliated to schools or cricket academies to have a chance to attend trials and be selected
- Provide opportunities for cricketers from international and local schools alike to play more cricket outside of the school system
- Create a crucial link in the Junior Cricket Pathway from Grassroots to Representative Cricket for Singapore at age group level
- Formulate a league which is not time consuming and appealing to junior cricketers and their parents and to not infringe on academic obligations of these players
The SCA will work towards these T10 leagues to be a permanent fixture annually moving forward.
Additionally, the SCA U17s Premier league will act as a platform for selection of 45 Players to play across three teams in the Emerging Player Series.
