PNG T-20 Series: Singapore lose by 74 runs to PNG
Hosts Papua New Guinea beat Singapore by 74 runs in the opening match of the Air Nuigini Twenty-20 Series at Port Moresby on 4 September 2010. PNG elected to bat and made 136-7. Chaminda Ruwan grabbed 3 wickets with Narender Reddy (2), Pramodh Raja and Shoib Razak accounting for the 7 wickets. Singapore responded poorly. Except for Munish Arora's 18, none of the other batsmen reached double figures as we folded for 62 in 13.3 overs on a slow batting track. Singapore face Malaysia in a later match today. Malaysia had earlier beaten Hongkong in the only match. The Republic finished runners-up in the 50-overs competition involving the same teams. We beat Hongkong and Malaysia and lost to PNG, who won all 3 matches. Malaysia were third and Hongkong last. ...

S'pore bt M'sia by 11 runs to be runners-up in quadrangular

Singapore finished runners-up in the Air Niugini Super Series quadrangular tournament in Port Moresby.

The Republic scored an 11-run win over Malaysia in the final group match on 3 September 2010 when we registered our highest score in the 4-nation tournament with 257-8 in our 50 overs and restricted our neighbours to 246-8 in their innings.

Singapore's run-makers were opener Buddhika Mendis (80), Chaminda Ruwan (55), Anish Param (28) and Chetan Suryawanshi (21). Our wicket-takers were Narender Reddy (3), Saad Khan Janjua (1), Dharmichand Mulewa (1) and Rizwan Madakia (1). There were 2 run outs.

Our previous scores in the competition were 252 against Hongkong and 225 against hosts PNG. The win over Malaysia was our second after our opening-match victory over Hongkong by 90 runs. We had lost to eventual champions PNG by 5 wickets on 2 September 2010. PNG clinched the title with 3 straight wins. Hongkong were winless in the competition.

SINGAPORE LOSE TO PNG BY 5 WICKETS

Hosts Papua New Guinea defeated Singapore by 5 wickets in the Air Nuigini Super Series competition in Port Moresby on 2 September 2010. Buddhika Mendis, Dharmichand Mulewa and Narender Reddy (two) were the wicket-takers with one run out as the hosts scored 229-5 in 48 overs in reply to the Republic's 225-6 in the 50-overs competition.

Singapore, electing to bat, slowed down in the final 20 overs after putting up 131 runs in 30 overs. With the wicket deteriorating, the run-rate dipped with 84 runs being added in the last 20 overs despite wickets in hand.

Param, batting at No.3 and who made 53 against Hongkong in the opening match on 1 September 2010, made 73 after Chetan Suryawanshi (34) and Buddhika Mendis (28) had given us a flying start with 59 runs inside 10 overs. Veteran Munish Arora again made his experience count with his calculated shots to contribute 52 not out to add to his 42 against Hongkong.

Singapore play Malaysia in their final group match on 3 September 2010 at the same ground.

SINGAPORE BEAT HONGKONG

SPINNERS Rohan Tripathi and Dharmichand Mulewa carried on our batsmen's good work to lay the foundation for Singapore's 90-run win over Hongkong in the opening match of the Air Nuigini Super Series competition in Port Moresby on 1 September 2010.

Electing to bat, there were contributions all round with Anish Param top-scoring for us with 53. Munish Arora batted cleverly to register 42 with Buddhika Mendis making 41 after fellow-opener Chetan Suryawanshi hit 32.

Hongkong, a Division Three team in the World Cricket League, started smoothly in their response. It needed the guile of Dharmichand Mulewa to take 3 quick wickets to check Hongkong. Rohan Tripathi cleaned up the lower-order with 4 wickets.

Singapore face hosts Papua New Guinea on 2 Sep 2010. Malaysia is the other team, in the quadrangular tournament.

Singapore beat Hongkong by 90 runs in Air Nuigini Super Series in Port Moresby: Singapore won toss & batted first. Singapore 252-8 in 50 overs (Chetan Suryawanshi 32, Buddhika Mendis 41, Anish Param 53, Munish Arora 42, Saad Khan Janjua 24, Dharmichand Mulewa 20, Pramodh Raja 20 n.o.) Hongkong 162 all out in 44.4 overs (Rohan Tripathi 4-25, Dharmichand Mulewa 3-23, Pramodh Raja 1-25, Riaz Hussein 1-23).

PAPUA NEW GUINEA TOUR

The Selection Committee comprising chairman Mr. Joe Grimberg, Mr. Mahmood Gaznavi and Mr. Sajith Sivanandan selected the following 14 players to travel to Papua New Guinea for the quadrangular tournament from 30 August 2010 to 6 September 2010:-

Chetan Suryawanshi, Narender Reddy, Anish Paraam, Saad Khan Janjua (captain), Riaz Hussein, Chaminda Ruwan, Buddhika Mendis, Kshitij Shinde, Mizran Omar, Pramodh Raja, Munish Arora, Rohan Tripathi, Rizwan Madakia, Dharmichand Mulewa.

The other teams taking part are Hongkong, Malaysia and Papua New Guinea. The quadrangular will feature a 50-overs round-robin followed by a 20-20 tournament.

DAV WHATMORE AND TOM MOODY IN SINGAPORE

Current IPL and former international coaches Dav Whatmore (Kolkata Knight Riders) and Tom Moody (Punjab Kings XI) will be in Singapore from June 25th - 27th to conduct a unique and cutting-edge High Performance Coaching Clinic for kids (aged 11-19) and they will also speak at a dinner. Please find details attached.

This a rare opportunity for youngsters to meet and learn from 2 of the best coaches in the modern game. Dav Whatmore famously led Sri Lanka to their 1996 World Cup win and brought the best out of Bangladesh as they beat Australia, India, South Africa and Sri Lanka when he was coach. Tom Moody is a double World Cup winner with Australia as a player and took Sri Lanka to the 2007 World Cup final as coach.

During their High Performance Clinic, Whatmore & Moody will be using Silicon Coach computer software to analyse each young cricketer's performance via video recording. Each cricketer will then have individual analysis sessions with one of these coaches.

During the dinner, Whatmore & Moody will talk about their playing and coaching careers as well take questions from the audience. Topics covered will include the IPL and current cricket events.

SINGAPORE U-13 TOUR TO JAKARTA

Singapore U-13 team 20 member squad went to Jakarta from 31^st May to 5^th June 2010 for a development tour. Indonesia Cricket Association hosted an 8 A side tournament in which 16 teams participated. The Singapore U-13 development squad was split into 2 teams and played in the tournament.

Mr. Sarika was in-charge of the Singapore Dashers and Mr. Mahesh was with Singapore Hurricanes. “Both teams performed exceptionally well and the tour was a success”, said Manager/Coach Mr. Sarika Prasad. He added saying that “The host accepted our request and gave us a green signal to participate only in the group stage as it was a local tournament”. “Most of the teams were U-17 boys, Although they have just started playing cricket our U-13 showed courage to take on the bigger boys and played very positive cricket”, said Coach Mr. Mahesh.

SINGAPORE U-16 TOUR TO HONG KONG - TEAM ANNOUNCED

Singapore Under-16 team will tour Hong Kong from 14 June to 19 June 2010 for a development tour and will play 4 matches against the Hong Kong development squads. The team is scheduled to depart on 14 June and return on 19 June 2010.
